Description
A direct descendant of the storied Evans Compactra of the sixties, the new PureFire amp is your teleport to another world where every note and chord blooms with the warmth and beauty of yesteryear.
“If I had a secret, it was staying with the sound that I was pleased with 50 years ago & not constantly bouncing around from one fad to the next.” — Jim Evans
We remain committed to Jim’s unique passive tone controls that support warm harmonics, natural compression, and overt string separation.
This year’s revelation is a redesigned cabinet that not only shows off sleek futuristic lines but fosters improved adjustability with a wide angle of crystalline presence.
Whether you choose the PureFire 200 or the PureFire 300 combo amp, the twelve-inch speaker can respond with a chime or a roar, depending on your own touch and technique.
Your Evans tone will inspire unimaginable excellence.
Your price for the PureFire 200 is $1550 and for the PureFire 300 is $1750.

This is a familiar Evans recipe, with their unique, comprehensive preamp and a separate, 200-watt Class D power amp. A unique design, gone is the need for any tilt-back add-on. The Purefire cabinet front is angled back about 30 degrees while four feet stay coupled to the floor. The speaker is at a perfect angle to project into the right space for listening.
I really love the classic tones of tube amps as well as the Polytone sound. The Evans preamp has Buff, Depth, Body and Expand controls in addition to the Bass and Treble, so virtually every conceivable clean tone is available. And it gets loud enough for about any scenario imaginable, plus a very good digital reverb that goes from subtle to surf.
Another interesting update is in the cabinet finishing. This is not finished with tolex or any kind of glued-on vinyl. The finish is sprayed on like a pickup bedliner. It should stand up to decades of use.
I’ve been lucky to get my hands on a LOT of nice amps and this is the best amp I’ve ever played through, period. It’s a logical design that’s well thought-out, meticulously constructed, and… form follows function. The Purefire is a homerun, and a true boutique, heirloom amp.
