If you are a versatile player but absolutely need that clean foundation – this is your amp. This amp is used for my electric classical playing at church, jazz chord melody solo playing, or cover tunes in our high energy band. It works very well with effects including overdrive. Our band covers a wide range of material, some of which requires warm cleans that track accurately (funk tunes). No other amp can do this that I’ve played. I was always challenged with other amps splatting out on these kind of tunes. Not the Evans – it comes through like a pro while maintaining a warm, musical tone. The cabinet’s projection is amazing – easily allowing a player to compete on stage with a 2 x 12″ cab. Typically we mic our amps – but in cases where we can’t, this amp has plenty of power in reserve. Highly recommended.

I have been performing for decades, and I have toured professionally for years. This Evans RE300 is the best amp I have owned. I have done jazz shows with my arch top and country shows playing pedal steel with this amp. Not to mention playing blues. My current Les Paul is the Duane Allman model. The fat neck and killer pickups have a tone and playability that I love! I have recently been searching for a really punchy amp. My pedals are simple – Analogman Compressor, Ibanez TS-808 Tube Screamer, Xotic SL Drive, and a Ditto Looper. I just sold my 65 Twin Reissue (too heavy to carry!), have a 65 Deluxe Reverb RI, and a new Roland Blues Cube Stage. They’re both very close to the tone I was looking for, but not quite. I also have an Evans RE200. I play jazz with various archtops, and the Evans is very portable and can get that classic jazz tone – fat and warm – just a tremendous sound. So, I never really thought about the Evans being anything other than a jazz amp. Man, was I ever wrong! I plugged in my pedalboard to the Evans and dug in. I was just blown away. This little 29 pound monster RE200 was just killing it with flying colors. And more punch than just about any amp I’ve had or even tried out. Who’d a thunk it?! And that classic gritty LP tone make this my new go to combo. Sweet!

I’m not a pro player and I always used tube amps, Boutique or hand wired amps because thats what I knew. I have a friend who is a professional player and Music teacher at a university and I heard his older model Evans amp. I know of some famous players that use them and I like their sound so I bought the RE300 and it is an amazing sounding amplifier. No outside noise, just the guitar and the nuances of my hands. It’s also nice to know what my guitars actually sound like, with the tubes there was always something in the sound. The amp is crisp and clean when you want, and it has excellent control over the reverb, flange and chorus. From beginner to Pro, if you want pure sound then try this amp.

I like pointing out the versatility of my RE200 because everyone thinks these are just jazz amps. Not true. It is a versatile clean platform for any situation and takes pedals really well – especially with the Buff control. My tube amp blew a fuse some time back and I’m having trouble getting motivated to get it over to the tech to take a look at it. The Evans works just fine for both live and rehearsal with better cleans. If you have the older Evans before the Buff control, check out the newer models – even more tube like than before.

Been playing guitar for 40 yrs. Always liked tube, but been playing the RE200 for 2.5 yrs. The tone shaping is amazing, more control than a high end tube amp. I play mostly straight ahead jazz either in a trio, or with a bass, and a lot of solo guitar. This amp has all the warmth of tube amp but better clarity and string separation. Be patient learning the controls, Scot was a big help, I did play with some different speakers to soften the highs, I run the 10″ ext. cab for the fullest sound I have ever had, or heard. Just a little customer feedback. I got a Ron Eschete model about 6 years ago for extensive Jazz guitar use. Still going strong with no problems. Very versatile amp, capable of a widest range of tones and of course, the best Jazz guitar amp available. The RE300 is great sounding amplifier! I have been looking for a versatile amp with lots of clean headroom, tight low end, great tone and compact. This amp has it all. Because the EQ section is so musical, it is easy to shape your tone for many types of guitars with different pickups. I also play harmonica through the RE300 and I am able to get a great sound. Scot Buffington and the guys at Evans really got it right with this amp!
